After we made it through the really cold weather we had a couple of days that were nice and sunny and then freezing fog moved into the area and has been with us for the last four days. It's supposed to move on out tomorrow, but then we have rain/snow showers to look forward to the next couple of days. Soon as I get the taxes sent off I'll be free to sew. Well, it's way past my bedtime so guess I'd better get some sleep. Stay warm everyone.

Good Intentions
I had good intentions about trying to post more often this year. Then I had to get my taxes for the State done so I've been working on those. Before I started them I did manage to quilt and bind this jelly roll quilt.

Mexican Lasagna
Over the weekend I made a new recipe (which I forgot to take a picture of) that I had never tried before. You can find it here: Mexican Lasagna . I really liked it and thought it tasted even better the next day. Dh says he likes enchiladas better. It calls for a Tablespoon of Chili powder and we decided that if we made it again we would use less. It's something I would make again, but it will be awhile. When I do make it again I will add chopped black olives to it. The directions said to make it in a shallow 2 qt baking dish which I did, but if I was making it for company I think I would make it in a 9" x 13" pan and double the recipe except for the chili powder. It also called for Golden Mushroom Soup, but I had to settle for Cream of Mushroom with garlic which was fine. I may make it with enchiladas and DH's fabulous salad and have company over.
This was our sunset tonight. It has been really cold here since Christmas Eve and total we've had about 6-8 inches of snow. We even had our water freeze, but it only took a day to get it going again so now we will put some heat tape on the pipes and hope not to have to deal with that again. Because of the cold I haven't been able to work in the quilt room since Christmas Eve. Maybe tomorrow it is supposed to be 30 degrees tomorrow and by Monday we should be back in the 40's it will feel like a heat wave.
That's about as exciting as it gets here so far this year. Hope everyone had a safe and Happy New Year.

Winter Shows up Again
After several days of unseasonal warmer than normal weather the temperatures have dropped. While we had wind and rain last night there was snow in the mountains. So this morning this was the view from the living room windows,
It must have still been snowing at the top of the mountains with all the cloud cover they weren't visible all day.
Tomorrow is a day spent in the quilt room so guess I'd better call it a day. Hopefully, if I'm very industrious I'll have something to show you.

Design Wall Monday
I'm joining up with Patchwork Times on her Design Wall Monday Post. Accuquilt came out with some new dies fall of 2013 and the Hunter Star was one of them. I've never made a Hunter Star quilt before so decided to try out the die. It took me about 40 minutes to cut out the pieces for 12 blocks. It works really well and goes together easily.
Just when you think spring may be here you get something like this:
We woke up yesterday morning snow. It was a heavy wet snow and by afternoon it was all gone and we had rain. Today is overcast with more rain tomorrow and Wednesday. I knew I shouldn't have washed windows last month it was just asking for trouble.
I'm off to find something for borders for the Hunter Star Quilt. Soon as taxes are done I should be around more often.

Winter Has Arrived
Nothing like what is happening in the Midwest and East coast, but still needed here. The wind is picking up so I'm sure that this dry snowfall will probably start to drift. It is a gray and white day and for once the mountain isn't visible.
It makes me want to curl up with a good book on the kindle and a hot cup of tea with a quilt on my lap and maybe a cat or two. Hope you are all safe and warm.

The Snow Storm

Well, after all the build up from the weatherman we have about an inch of snow on the ground. It is now a rain snow mix and already starting to melt. Around here it is a relief not to have piles of snow. It would be ideal as far as I'm concerned if it only snowed on the grass and left the roads open. They got a lot more snow in WA than we did here in Rupert.
So today instead of quilting I have played Words With Friends with my sister on Facebook and now I'm knitting dishcloths. I may even get a binding on a quilt this evening while we watch tv. Stay warm I'll be back soon.

Popping in Again
You've probably been wondering where I've been. Well, I've been tryi
ng to sew, stay warm and get taxes done. In the last three weeks we have had one storm system after another pass through and a couple of them have left views like this: While the weather was being difficult I did get the red and white 9 patch snowball quilt done using the spirals template from Circle Lord. Yesterday we drove up to Mt. Home to look at 4 wheel drive
Jeeps. Dh was wanting something with 4 wh
eel drive so he ended up getting a 2005 Jeep Liberty. It's a nice small vehicle and gets 20 to 24 miles to the gallon. After Dh was done with the car business we went on to Boise to visit some friends and I was lucky enough to work in a visit to The Quilt Crossing and KnitWits both very nice and a must for a return visit. This morning we had pancakes for breakfast and Squeak being the spoiled baby that he is had to have some also. In the midst of all this we recieved a post card from the vet telling us that it was time to bring in Squeak to be spayed
. I drop Squeak off and by the time I return home the vet has left a message on the machine. I return the call and the Vet says,"Did you know that Squeak is MALE??? MALE says I in shock. MY SQUEAK is MALE?? Yes, says they - Do you want him neutered? "Of course, says I then I hang up the phone. Squeak has been in to see the vet before this so how come the vet didn't know Squeak was male, and the place I left him overnight while we were gone once never said anything about him being male so how was I supposed to know this? It's been real interesting learning to say him instead of her when referring to "Studly" Squeak. It does however, explain Squeak's P & V attitude.
